The Importance of Being Earnest

Why see The Importance of Being Earnest?

Oscar Wilde's Masterpiece

Widely considered one of the funniest plays in the English language, The Importance of Being Earnest is one of Oscar Wilde's most popular works. A breezy and delightful comedy of manners shot through with Wilde's biting wit, join Jack, Algy, Gwendolyn, and Cecily as they discover that the course of true love never did run smooth under the watchful eye of society battleaxe, Lady Bracknell.

What is the story?

Jack and Algy, two well-to-do bachelors in Victorian England, are wishing for some excitement in their lives. Both creating an alter ego named Earnest, Jack and Algy attempt to win the hearts of Gwendolyn and Cecily, two women who, conveniently, claim to only love men called Earnest. As the pair struggle to keep up with their stories, the foursome become entangled in a tale of deception and misadventure.

EXTRAORDINARY PERFORMANCE

This production was extraodrinary, particularly the performances from the women. Kate Eastwood Norris as Lady Bracknell was delicious. Ella Olesen was a standout as Cecily Cardew. The costumes, set, lighting, and overall experience at the Gulfshore was joyful, laugh-out-loud funny, and the highest calibre of theatre. Can't wait to see what these actors do next. ... Read more
